Do any of you remember the movie “Finding Nemo”? I am often reminded of the little fish called “Dory”. Her motto in life was “just keep Swimming”.
To be honest that is actually good advice. No matter where you are at in your life, there is wisdom in that statement. Just keep swimming- just keep going – don’t ever give up.
This is especially true when things aren’t going the way you planned it to go.
In the last 3 and a half years I have had to remind myself of this many times. Although, things have improved a lot for me health wise, life has been far from normal physically and everyday life is hard. I still have difficulty doing what I used to do. At times, this has been very frustrating and I have questioned why God hasn’t restored me completely or healed me fully, like I know that scripture has promised?
It’s in moments like these that I have to just remind myself to “Keep swimming”. Just like Paul said in Galatians 6:9 NIV, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up”. I’ve had to plod on and do the best I can, make the best of a bad situation and try and keep my eyes focused on God, on His plan, and on His prize. Knowing that eventually I will reap a harvest of God’s goodness if I just refuse to give in to the temptation to give up.
When you really think about it, that’s all we can do. We don’t have complete control over everything that happens in our lives, but we do have control in how we respond to things. We can choose to give up and pack it all in because life hasn’t gone the way we wanted, or we can choose joy and search out the good in the situation and just keep swimming. We can keep looking for the best in a situation and learn to keep going in joy and peace.
That’s what I have chosen to do. How about you? Is there any area in your life where you need to just keep swimming?
